In 2039, humanity is preparing to leave home once again.

Saqnikte’ Canastuj, a New York–born astronaut, is selected for humanity’s first permanent lunar colony. Before her departure, she returns to the Bronx; to a family descended from Guatemalan Mayan K’iche’ roots, where language is preserved, rituals endure, and daily life moves fluidly between K’iche’, Spanish, and English.

Both a Mayan K’iche’ priestess and a scientist, Saqnikte’ stands at the intersection of ancestral memory and technological ambition. As the launch date approaches, long-suppressed tensions surface within her family, revealing the quiet costs of adaptation, silence, and survival.

Moonbound is a sci-fi drama anchored in intimacy, where space travel mirrors an older story of departure and transformation. Beneath its cosmic scope lies a meditation on cultural continuity, inherited identity, and what must be carried forward when the future demands distance from home.
